Participating Institutions

A participating institution is one that provides specific learning experiences within a multi-institutional program of GME.

Subsections of institutions, such as a department, clinic, or unit of a hospital, do not qualify as participating institutions.  CHRISTUS St. Joseph Hospital has many rotations to departments within and small private practices in our surrounding community.

The more structured out rotation, though, is called an affiliated institution.  Institutions may be affiliated with the parent institution through an Affiliation Agreement, which must cover the areas specified in the ACGME's Institutional Requirements and clearly state the educational goals of the rotation.  Below is a listing of such affiliated institutions:

OB/GYN:

  • University of Texas Medical Branch, in Galveston
  • MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston
  • Brackenridge Hospital, Austin

  • General Surgery:

  • Hermann Hospital, Houston

  • Plastic Surgery:
